Hot Butter - Popcorn (1972)

This one-hit wonder was a hit in the summer of 1972. It was one of the first synthesiser-based records to become a hit and it was regarded as something of a novelty tune at the time. I was 10 when it was a hit, and I coined the phrase "pipply-popply" to describe its sound. If you haven't already heard it, listen and you will see what I mean. Lol:)

  • This came out while I was still in Vietnam. Catchy tune.

I was only 10 and still in the junior school, although this tune was a hit during the summer holidays. It peaked at #5 in the UK in August 1972. The top two hits that week were seasonal as well: Alice Cooper's "School's Out" was number one and "Seaside Shuffle" by Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs was in second place. Meanwhile, "Popcorn" got to number one in Australia and several European countries.

  • Sounds like a good ring tone.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone somewhere has it as a ringtone. :)
