The Mayor of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen, has since claimed that three people have been killed with nine more injured.
Authorities raised the terrorism threat to its highest level in Utrecht province, schools were told to shut their doors and paramilitary police increased security at airports and other vital infrastructure, and also at mosques.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte convened crisis talks, saying he was deeply concerned about the incident, which came three days after a lone gunman killed 50 people in mass shootings at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand.
“The police asks you to watch out for 37-year-old Gokmen Tanis (born in Turkey) in connection with this morning’s incident,” Dutch police said in a statement.
They issued an image of the man and warned the public... less

Why can we not just blame people for their own actions? And not look for someone else to blame?

The real estate tycoon had a bone to pick with the Anti-Defamation League.Foxman, then ADL’s national director, sat waiting for half an hour at the owner’s usual corner table. Trump finally walked in blustering, hand outstretched.
“Mr. Foxman,” he began, “Trump never apologizes.”Foxman’s colleague, Art Teitelbaum, had recently criticized Trump for his tactics in Palm Beach – a city long marred by discrimination – battling the city council over turning his estate at Mar-a-Lago into a private social club. Trump was accusing the Florida township of antisemitism, claiming that it was opposed to his efforts because his club was going to welcome members of all races and creeds, including Jews and African-Americans.The ADL’s leadership had seen this phenomenon up close: Teitelbaum and Foxman were in th... less

My question was inspired from the article I'll post below, about O'Rourke -- both of the things for which he apologized ( a comment about he and his wife's child raising and some of his writings as a teenager) seem incredibly innocuous to me. I realize some people have done some questionable things -- but, being one who apologizes too much, I shake my head a bit as I watch fellow humans feeling they must apologize for every little thing.Oh, I need to apologize now -- as a youngster, I drew a huge amount of illustrations and images from the 1968 "Night of the Living Dead" movie. And vampires. They were all gruesome. And, as a young teen, I once wrote a short story about a woman, in a large castle, slowly drawn into madness and death while hearing a constant sound of someone's constant footsteps outside her room late at night. She lost her mind and was literally ... less

Because they strain out a gnat and ignore the weightier matters like words and ideas. (Right, it's not a complete sentence but who gives a shuck? You get the point.)

Then he will start sniffing my hands and legs - start grumbling - huff off into the front room and then pretend to ignore me for 10 minutes or so. I bet if he could talk he would say stuff like - well were they a good pat. Cheers and happy weekend!
